Adana Chambers of Craftsmen and Craftsmen Union (Adana ESOB) President Niyazi Göger said that the VAT reduction on basic foodstuffs is an important regulation to reduce the burden of food inflation on consumers.

Our President Mr. The regulation on the reduction of VAT on basic foodstuffs from 8 percent to 1 percent, announced by Recep Tayyip Erdogan, came into effect after being published in the Official Gazette.

The regulation, which came into force as of February 14, 2022, was welcomed by both tradesmen and citizens.

Adana ESOB President Niyazi Göger said that the VAT reduction applied on basic foodstuffs is a decision that will relieve both tradesmen and citizens.

Pointing out that the reduction in the VAT rate will have a positive impact on the shelf prices of basic foodstuffs, our President Niyazi Göger said, “As a result of the speculations in the exchange rate, there has been an extraordinary increase in the shelf prices of especially basic foodstuffs. The daily rising prices of basic foodstuffs were restrained by the intervention in the exchange rate. The reduction in the VAT rate will also initiate the downward trend in prices.”

Our President, Niyazi Göger, said, “Our shopkeepers have been waiting for VAT reduction on basic foodstuffs for a long time. We consider reducing the VAT from 8 percent to 1 percent on basic food products, announced by our President, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdogan, within the scope of my "VAT System Simplification Programme", as a very important step in reducing the burden on consumers caused by food inflation. Equalizing the VAT rate will also reduce the tax burden on our tradesmen.

Our President, Niyazi Göger, added that he believes that reducing VAT to 1 in cleaning materials, as in basic foodstuffs, will be an important step in the fight against inflation.
