Public transportation tradesmen, who carry out urban passenger transportation in Adana, are going through difficult times in the face of the decrease in the number of passengers and increasing input costs due to the price difference in the passenger transportation fees in the Metropolitan Municipality buses. |
The heads of public bus cooperatives serving in urban passenger transportation, Adana Union of Tradesmen and Craftsmen Chambers (Adana ESOB) visited our President Niyazi Göger and asked for support in solving the problems faced by the sector.
Adana ESOB President Niyazi Göger said that public transport tradesmen are unable to cover their expenses with their daily earnings in the face of the increase in input costs, especially fuel and spare parts.
Pointing out that the public transport tradesmen, who are experiencing difficult times in the face of all these negativities, have expectations from the state, our President Niyazi Göger stated that they want the support paid to the public transport tradesmen by the Ministry of Family and Social Services to be increased to at least 3000 liras for those over 65 and the disabled, and that the SCT for vehicle changes should be abolished.
Reminding that price updates have been made in passenger transportation fees in the past months, our President Niyazi Göger pointed out that, on the other hand, there has been a serious decrease in the number of passengers due to the implementation of the old price tariff by the Metropolitan Municipality in municipal buses.
Emphasizing that the public transport tradesmen bear the burden of the municipalities, our President Niyazi Göger underlined that at this point, the Metropolitan Municipality has a great responsibility.
Pointing out that 90 percent of 81 cities carry passengers with municipal buses and public buses for the same price, our President Niyazi Göger said, “Our public transportation tradesmen expect our Metropolitan Mayor Zeydan Karalar to put an end to the unfair competition experienced by first eliminating the price difference with municipal buses.” said.
Pointing out that the public transport tradesmen could not receive sufficient support from the Adana Metropolitan Municipality during the pandemic period, our President Niyazi Göger said, “With the amendment made in the Law No. 5216, our state paved the way for the municipalities to provide support to the public transport tradesmen. During the pandemic period in Adana, our tradesmen received only 2 thousand 250 liras per vehicle from the municipality. Bursa Municipality pays 5 lira and 50 kuruş to tradesmen for each passenger carried. In Ankara, the municipality provided a total of 80 thousand lira support per vehicle. Kahramanmaraş, which is next to us, has provided 2 thousand 500 liras and 3 thousand 500 liras per vehicle every month since the pandemic started. With a new decision taken in 2022, the support is increased to 4 thousand 500 liras. Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality also provided great support to public transport tradesmen during the pandemic. We expect our Mayor of Adana Metropolitan Municipality, Zeydan Karalar, to provide fuel support to our tradesmen, as in the example of Istanbul, Ankara and Bursa.”
