Adana Union of Chambers of Tradesmen and Craftsmen (Adana ESOB) President Niyazi Göger said that the pandemic and increasing input costs dragged the public transport tradesmen into a bottleneck.

In Adana; Stating that passengers are transported cheaper than many cities, especially metropolitan cities such as Istanbul, Izmir and Antalya, Mayor Niyazi Göger noted that it is essential for the Metropolitan Municipality to make price updates in passenger transportation fees. Mayor Göger also stated that the price difference between the municipality and public transport tradesmen in passenger transportation fees should be removed.

Adana ESOB President Niyazi Göger stated that one of the sectors that suffered the most from the pandemic, which negatively affected the economic and social life in Turkey, was the public transport tradesmen.

Pointing out that the increase in input costs, spare parts and fuel prices on top of all this negative picture, Chairman Niyazi Göger said, “Public transport tradesmen, who turn their contacts with debt in the morning, close the contact with debt in the evening. Adana Metropolitan Municipality should not be a spectator to this situation any longer. Otherwise, we may face serious problems in public transportation in Adana.”

Underlining that Adana is one of the provinces with the cheapest passenger transportation when compared to other provinces of Turkey, President Niyazi Göger said, “Passenger fees in many cities, especially in metropolitan cities such as Istanbul, Izmir and Antalya, are higher than Adana. Even with Ankara, which received a raise in 2019, there is a difference of 10 cents between us.

The expectation of our public transportation tradesmen from Adana Metropolitan Municipality is to update the passenger transportation fees in metropolitan municipality buses, private public buses and minibuses in accordance with the conditions of the day.

“PRICE DIFFERENCE MUST BE REMOVED”

Pointing out that the Metropolitan Municipality, which provides public transport services, competes unfairly with the public transport tradesmen due to the price difference, and this creates a serious problem for the tradesmen, Mayor Niyazi Goger said, “Wherever you go in Turkey, the municipality does not carry passengers cheaper than the public transport tradesmen. In Adana, the situation is the opposite. Despite the loss, the Metropolitan Municipality, which carries passengers cheaper than the public transport tradesmen, should abandon this insistence, and the price difference between the municipal buses and the public transport tradesmen should be eliminated. Another issue that our tradesmen suffer from is the route issue. Our city; It is expanding every day from east to west, from north to south. Despite this, we continue to serve on the same routes for 10 years. This causes congestion in the city. Routes to be opened to new settlements will both end the congestion in the city and allow our public transport tradesmen to serve more Adana residents these days when we talk about the future of transportation in Adana.
